in 1993, when the "original" 20 pedal bashers rode from this pub. We plan to ride exactly the same route yet again. Maps will be issued. There will be no beer stop, so that hopefully the younger faster fitter riders can finish without needing lights.
Pottsie, who was only 57 then, managed to complete the ride of approx 20 miles in 1 hour 41 minutes 54 seconds, and we did set off at 6:45 pm then and it wasn't a race! How many of you can beat Pottsie's paltry time??? (Which is only about 12mph.) Who is the fastest Basher now? Those who are so inclined are invited to ride the exact original route as fast as they can, to establish "standard times" for their age and sex which then can become "benchmarks" for future Birthday Rides. It may also go some way to satisfying the needs of those Bashers who keep trying to make some of our rides into a race. (much to the annoyance of Moaning Geezer). Pottsie will act as starter, time keeper, and Race Director so as to avoid any disputes. The route will have check points to eliminate shortcutting or cheating. |

Our voyage will take us & our bikes across the Exe to Exmouth, from whence we will circumnavigate the estuary by bike, back to Starcross, hopefully ending up @ the S.F.C.C. for inexpensive drinks & Bash Snacks. IF you've paid your Tax then the boat trip will be FREE. ALL others & guests will have to pay £5. Ideally we need about 50 "fully paid up" Bashers to make it viable. So if you're interested, pay your Tax now and get your name on the Boarding List A.S.A.P. - and let's hope it's Hot & Sunny. |
