Email From Wun Re: Cape Argus Cycle Race

Last year I took part in my 4th Cape Argus Cycle Race. For those of you who do not know it is a 109km cycle race around the Cape Town peninsula and is the largest timed cycle race in the world with over 38,000 participants.

An Irish fiend, Joe Gaynor, borrowed a bike from me and we did the race together and he kindly donated Euro1000. I chipped in £1000 and various other friends and relatives made the total up to R32,300. This was donated to the Tzadoka Foster Home for displaced Cape Coloured kids.

This year the Tzadoka Home has been incorporated into a charity called Distance For Difference which raises money for a variety of causes.

As this is my 5th Cape Argus, to be held this coming Sunday, the 8th March, and it is the year of my 60th birthday I would like, with your support, to increase the level of sponsorship. As before I will start the ‘ball’ rolling with a £1000 donation, which gets us to at least R15,000.

I attach a recent newsletter from Distance For Difference and promise you that this is a truly worthwhile charity with only modest overheads run by Stephan Pieterse who genuinely cares about the fund raising and the projects supported.

If you want to support this charity please send me a cheque, arrange a bank transfer or catch up with me with cash in the UK or in South Africa. For those donating in Sterling I will commit to guaranteeing an exchange rate of R15 to £1, which will go some way to helping the total of Rands. (Current exchange rate is R14.40).

Many thanks to you all in anticipation and best wishes to all.

Malcolm
