I have now received an entry form for this year’s event direct from the organiser.
The 3 MILE FUN RUN event is on 13th October 2007. I need to know of those bashers who want to have a laugh on Woodbury Common followed by curry/chilli and a few beers back at Diddy’s & Jonno’s.
For those of you who are interested and those who have previously mentioned in passing that you would do it, please officially tell me by email to
or by text 07817 019540.
The cost of the entry is £15.00 and this has to go with the entry form. I would like to get the entry form in the post by the end of July to ensure getting a place (as last year they had to refuse entry to nearly 2000 people!) The other thing that participants need to do is to raise a minimum of £30 sponsorship to be handed in on the day of the event, sponsor forms can be downloaded from the event website

TVPB WORDS JUNE.
THE best tour so far? Those who were lucky enough to spend a week in beautiful Lake Garda certainly seem to think so.
Thanks must go to Timotei and Buzza who spent a lot of time putting the package together - it doesn't just happen!
The weather, scenery, the 'can't do enough for you' hotel and its all night bar, the rides for all groups, and the fun were top notch. The only hiccup was the longish walk from the hotel to the campsite restaurant for the evening meal, but in true bash spirit we all had a laugh about it, well most of us, - especially when the tearful mum burst in to complain about our 'noise' disturbing the sleep of her 'bambinos'!
It was just like the old days with over 40 of us all together again, and will be a hard act to follow.
Also another pat on the back to Tim for the Cheddar weekend. Only off roaders turned up, but they were treated to some excellent cross country trails, and a couple of new tricky, but exhilarating down hill single tracks. And we also had good entertainment from the late night 'domestic' in a certain tent!
And a big thanks to Flossie and Blaster for their generous hospitality over the '100th birthday' weekend. Those who braved the weather to turn up for the Sunday ride, later enjoyed top nosh, including scallops and steak, and free booze, in the modest marquee on the lawn.
Now we need everybody to rally around and support the Devon Bash at Minehead over the weekend of August 17 - 19.
As usual, the entry forms are a bit tardy in coming in. But we cannot firm up the arrangements for camping, meals, a live band, rides etc, unless we have money up front, a mere £35 a head all-in, in plenty of time.
Unless we get 80 registrations by July 14, the bash will have to be cancelled, or severely curtailed. At the time of writing we only had 43, plus two children.
It's a great deal for the money, and some different and varied new territory to explore, both on and off road. And just for Fallen Woman we have laid on a special karaoke and bingo night at nearby Butlins. (But it's not compulsory!) Register soonest with Sticky Dicky, please.
And another reminder - subs of £10 per-person (How much?) were due on July 1. The two Sallys - Mustang and Aunt - will be politely approaching you all, so please be ready for cash or cheques. Probably the best value of any club in the country - two organised rides a week, free food from pubs, away weekends, insurance cover, and the companionship and banter with interesting, witty, well adjusted, intellectually stimulating, civilised, like-minded folk! Or is that the CTC?
Nobody has yet come forward with a new venue for the Christmas party, so the default venues will be either the Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club, or the Abbrook Centre at Kingsteignton. If anybody can suggest and help organise a 'do' at a location that meets all the criteria, please tell Pottsie.
Fallen Woman has already pledged to sort out 'a really, really wonderful' live band she heard recently, but she was pissed at the time!
Brownie points also to Binliner for the super TVPB 'business' cards. A great idea, and well laid out and designed.
Despite the best efforts of a few of our more bolshie bashers, new riders just keep on turning up. And a few even come back again.
Several have been allocated bash names recently, including Malcolm McHendry (Hippie); Richard Boss (Ugo); Alan Edwards (Ego), and Gary (Gary Litter)
Injuries seem to be taking their toll lately, especially among the headbangers. Are they getting too adventurous, or is it just an age thing?
The latest on the casualty list are Ken The Rave, who has had bones pinned in his arm, after a nasty spill at Blandford Forum.
Froggie also crushed a finger at the same venue, and Brains wrenched his shoulder after slamming into a tree in Wales, despite full body armour. The pair are managing to ride on, but for poor Ken it means a couple of months off the bike.
Nice to see an earlier casualty, Squealer, back in pedalling action after her shoulder mishap in Scotland. And Scrubber is making good progress after arm surgery.
The camper van brigade seems to be swelling. Mind you, it is much more comfortable than a tent.
Latest to join the elite are Snakebite and Dusty, with their award winning Adria Twin. It's a beauty, but where's all the money coming from!
Cobbler and Blow Job turned up to Blaster's birthday do in a smart camper, but it was only borrowed. Bit embarrassing then to f...-up the awning while winding it out. Perhaps they just aren't cut out for the life.
These palaces on wheels are now becoming so popular, we're thinking of starting a special camping car section. Who's next?
A couple more diary dates. Cranks are holding their 12th birthday bash at Soudley in the Forest of Dean over September 28 - 30. The usual format of boozing, eating, partying, oh and some cycling around the forest.
Cost is £55 all in, including camping, and full details and a registration form are on
www.thecranks.co.uk or call 01453 547808.
The likely venue for next year's Nash Bash is in Wales at the Talybont Outdoor Centre, near Brecon.
Hobo's Backbackers are the hosts, over July 25-27 in 2008. Dormitory style accommodation plus camping. Full details and costs yet to be fixed, but they would appreciate an expression of interest to see if it is worth progressing.
Contact Tony Frost on
anthony.frost1@virgin.net
Froggies ride on Thursday, July 19, will be from the Abbeyford Woods car park at Okehampton, with the pub venue to be announced on the evening. The off-road route will be both cross country and semi-tech, and if enough roadies turn up, a Tarmac route could also be provided.

Happy Birthdays to Blaster and Flossie.
Thanks to Blaster and Flossie for organising a great birthday party. Good food, good company, great band...(you can always tell a good band by what happens in a crisis....everyone was dancin'...the generator packed up... we were all left in the dark....The drummer kept goin'....played a cool solo by the light of a mobile phone 'till the power came back up!) The only fly in the ointment was that it was a little damp for the start of the ride on Sunday. Maybe a little networking with GOD would be useful to keep the rain off for the 102nd!!
A Message from Posty re Nashbash 2008
Hi y'all
Here it is - finally the 2008 Nash bash committee have eventually got off their butts and found a site for next years Nash bash - this is just an intial mail out to let you know where and when - more info soon
Yes, from an Idea by Hosepipe of Hobo's backpackers, I stupidly agreed to promote the idea at NB 2006 Marlborough, and you lot must have been more drunk than I was, because you voted in NB 2008 to Wales, so it's your own fault!
Date : 25th - 27th July 2008
Venue - Talybont Outdoor Centre, Talybont-on Usk (near Brecon)
Talybont is a small village in the Brecon Beacons with some great trails around (and pubs too) - we'll probably do both on and off road trails if theres a demand for that - info on this will be on the rego form when it comes out. It is situated between Abergavenny and Brecon, just off the A40, so easy to find and get to.
The Outdoor centre has dormitory style accomodation for approx 35 people, plus surrounding grounds for camping.
There will be some space available for those wanting to bring camper vans too (hey, I'm hoping to have one myself by then!)
It also has plenty of toilets and showers available to all during the weekend
To make things simpler for both us and the centre, it will be same price for both camping or dormitory, so It's first come first served for this if you want it.
Catering will be a mix of local pubs and on site grub
More info will be sent out once the committee have a chance to get together for a natter - please indicate your interest with a quick reply for now to
anthony.frost1@virgin.net
Here's mud in your cassette
PS Thanks again to Soreass bash for laying on a great NB 2006 - hope we can do as well, and give you a great weekend's bashing and boozing!
PPS - please pass this on to any bashers you know who are not on this e mail

Life beyond Devon!!!
We've had some correspondence from the distant and largely unknown constellation of Nottinghamshire. Q.U.A.F.F. (Quorn Unfit All-Terrain Flab Fighters) are also cyclists and drinkers, and count among their number, members who go by the names of "Diorrhoea" and "Enema". They should fit right in down here! They're organising a bike/canal boat weekend for April next year (Link to flyer on their website) and will be doing the Plymouth to Ilfracombe Coast-to-Coast in May next year. If you would like to have a look at their website, it can be found at

Rubber's Ride on 27th May. A suggestion from Uzzi
If you think it's a bit of a long trip to East Prawle for one ride, why not make a weekend of it? -
especially since the Monday is a bank holiday.
There is camp site but a couple of hundred metres from the front door of the
wonderful
Pigs Nose pub (great atmosphere and good beer). It is a simple
field with fabulous views out to sea. Facilities stretch to a portaloo and
cold running water : there are showers for campers use in the pub. Uzzi's going
to be down there with a bunch of mates anyway. Folks are welcome to join
them. The site is called Sally Trip's Field and people should ring 01548
511229 to book if they're coming. Costs between £3 and £6 a night
depending on number of people and size of tent.

Commando Challenge 2007
Calling all Bashers with the ability to multi-task in the following 3 areas, anything more is a bonus:
Have a sense of fun
Are up for a challenge
Can raise some money for a Devon based charity
The date for this years’ Gemini FM Commando Challenge has been set for Sat 13 Oct, and the organisers are already taking entries. Charities to benefit this year are Dream-A-Way and TheElisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys.
I would like to enter a bash team again and run it along the same format as last year. The emphasis being on having a really good laugh and rounding off the day in true bash style with a curry or chilli and a few beers back at Diddy’s pad! If you don’t particularly want to participate but would like to come along for the important bit after, you can still give your assistance in the form of a strategically placed photographer to catch the participants in situations that one would not normally find oneself in! All for a slide show later in the day, so the more the better!
I am putting this message out early as on the challenge website
(www.commandochallenge.co.uk) they say that due to a cap on the number of participants they turned down two thirds of all the entries for last year, so entries are first come first served. It would also give you plenty of time to get raising some money.
SOOOO if anyone wants to know more then please take a look at the website or ask me or anyone who took part last year, they include:
Diddy
Anna
Bobbiball
Mavis
Turbo
Mustang Sally
The only difference that I would like to make to this years’ event is to have a local bash on the Sunday after, either on Woodbury or on Haldon. (Tonto please can you reserve the date for me?)
Anyone with an interest please let Jonno know either at a Bash or by email
kmj_1965@tesco.net
Thank you all
Jonno

Easter Off-Road
For those Off -Roaders who don't like chocolate easter eggs, there is another option on Sunday. A few of us plan to meet at Four Firs, Woodbury, at the usual 11am start, to play around the common for a couple of hours or so. there should be enough local knowledge to sus out some good bits, and have a couple of beers after.
Unda.

Mustang wants to know all about you!

you are happy to provide.
A form is attached (Right-Click
Here and select "Save Target As" to download) which you can either print out and send back to me in pigeon post, hand it to me at the next bash or you can fill it in using word or wordpad and e.mail it back to me.

Today's Cridford Inn Ride
Thanks to Trucker, Mr Chips and the Cridford Inn for an excellent ride and "Bash Food" today. Poor old Debacle missed the food by a few moments and Trucker was seen running across the car-park of the pub with sausages and chips for him, but alas...too late. Debacle's car drove off into the distance, and his portion had to be shared among the assembled company... Yummy!

Message from Gemma Ingall re. Haldon Aid Day
I am a ranger at Haldon Forest Park and we have a Aid day/sort of dig
day planned for this Sunday 18th March (unfortunately it is Mothers day
too) and wondered if you could pass the word around to your members?
Basically we have split the day in to 2 - registration is at 9.30 for a
10 start in the morning, then 1.00 registration for 1.30 start in the
afternoon finishing at 4. Food, drink and tools will be provided. We
will be concentrating on the berm section of the red run which as you
probably know was hit badly by the storms over recent months and has
been closed since Christmas. We are also hopefully going to be putting
in a new route to join in to the berm section.
For more information please go to
http://www.haldonfreeride.org People need to register if they
are going to come by sending a mail to
info@haldonfreeride.org, stating
your Name, Age, and Time of Arrival.

Mini-Tour to France or Spain
Jonno is thinking of arranging a pannier style tour for Aug/Sep 2008, but would appreciate some indication as to whether or not there would be enough people to warrant it.
The main purpose of this would be to celebrate the birth of Binliner whose age, like all women, shall remain a closely guarded secret!
If any bashers would be interested in doing this type of riding then please let Jonno know over the coming weeks.

Wun wants one's money! (In a Good Cause)..... CAPE ARGUS CYCLE RACE – CAPE TOWN MARCH 11TH 2007
This is just to let you know that once again I am participating in the Cape Argus Cycle Race, 109km around the Cape Peninsula, which is being held on the 11th March.
This is my third race and last year I managed to raise £1350 (R18,000) for charity to which Jenny and I added £300 (R4000) to make a total of £1650 (R22,000).
We took some time to identify 3 separate charities to donate the funds to. Two of the charities are based in Kyamundi, a local Township near Stellenbosch. The charities support children who would otherwise struggle to get into the education system.
The third charity supports 15 Cape Coloured orphans whose current funding amounts to about £1.00 (R13) per child per day.
All the charities are small and do not have overheads that absorb funding, as many charities do.
We can assure you that the additional funding that we provide does make a difference.
We much appreciated the support we received last year and would appreciate your support if it is at all possible. For our part we will commit to donating at least a further 10% on top of the donations that we receive.
If you would like to support our efforts this year please let me know and I will advise you how to donate. Alternatively you can send a cheque to our address at The Wookeys.
Regards to you all and thanks in anticipation.

The Devon Bash Weekend is to be held at Minehead Rugby Club on the weekend starting Friday August 17th. Those of you who were at Bobbiballs Minehead weekend won't remember how good the riding was, but there is something for everyone, whether you favour road, fire-trail or bone-breaking downhill!
We now have some photos of the riding, courtesy of Duncan, on the

If you can remember it....you weren't there!!!
Bobbiballs minehead weekend was a spectacular success! Worried by the "Little booze available" clause on the flyer, Bashers brought copious amounts to the venue...and then eked it out by draining the local pub almost dry before they started drinking in earnest! Buktu (bless 'im) did a fantastic job of feeding us all, Aunt Sally set up a workshop in the utility area. England won a rugby match. Words February - March - April 2007
Happy New Bashing year to all in our group. You can see from the rides list there's plenty going on so hopefully plenty to look forward to.
The main tour in Lake Garda is now full and we have 40 Bashers booked to make the trip. How many other UK biking outfits could drum up such strong support?
Talking about support brings me to my next point which is all to do with attendance incentives throughout 2007. Recently we held an informal meeting in a pub after a Thursday ride and the general concensus of opinion was that we should always reward those who regularly support Bash rides and who have paid their £10 membership fee for 2006 through to July 2007. Hence the first T.I.Ts and S.H.I.Ts incentive tickets. We issued 53 Hard S.H.I.Ts, 31 Tough S.H.I.Ts, 48 Right T.I.Ts and 33 Left T.I.T.s, in addition we also gave out 23 Free Drinks Vouchers at the "Oscars 2006." So now comes my second part of this incentives scheme. If you attend any ride in February and have been given 2 T.I.Ts or S.H.I.Ts find Mudsie or myself and claim back the £5 you paid for the carvery meal @ The Welcome Inn Oscars. Remember you must attend the bash personally, you must be a fully paid up Basher, and you must claim your £5 on or before Sunday 25 February as no claims will be honoured after this date. Once again these conditions are non-negotiable.
Finally I would ask that any Basher who has joined the group in the last 2 or 3 years check that we have their full proper name and address and phone numbers, email address etc. These details should be given to myself, Manky, Mudsie or Mustang Sally. This situation was highlighted at the awards when a Basher operating under the name of Duncan from Bovey was voted winner of the most promising male newcomer. We had 70 people in the room for the awards and nobody seemed to know anything about his surname or contact details. So once again please come forward to make our job that much easier.
We now have 93 paid up Bashers (how many other cycling outfits are this big?) thanks to the efforts of Mustang Sally and it would be nice if we had them all on our current membership list. Talking about members it's sad to hear that our second eldest Basher - Captain Ahab - is not well and I know that you will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery and a return to Bash riding asap.
Please note that the current T.I.Ts and S.H.I.Ts incentive has now finished out intention is to start another scheme to reward the faithful.

Words from The Adjutant
A BIG "thank you" is due to our leader, mentor, CO and ageing biker,
Pottsie, for the huge amount of time and effort he put into the Christmas
party, and the awards ceremony.
Both were big hits, apart from a couple of hiccups, but it doesn't just
happen.
It takes a lot of organising to make sure everything is all right on the
day, and not many members realise the work involved.
The new venue for the Xmas bash, the Abbrook social club at Kingsteignton,
worked quite well. It may not have suited everybody, but the 'committee' has
for some time been urging members to suggest suitable locations.
Quite a stringent criteria has to be met, especially on price, so if anybody
has any ideas and is willing to do the work, let's hear from you.
Our default venue this year will probably be back to the Starcross Cruising
and Fishing Club - unless something better comes forward.
The burned custard at Abbrook was not to everybody's taste. And guess who
moaned loudly, but still managed to wolf down seconds?
The fancy dress jaunt through Newton Abbot also made headlines in the local
weekly tabloid, along the lines of 'Drunken ride of shame', referring to the
impromptu pedal through the aisles of Asda by a few 'high spirited' members
full of Xmas spirit - you know who you are!
Still, no damage or arrests! And congrats to all those who made the effort
to produce some original and hilarious outfits. Newton Abbot knew we were
around.
Pottsie and his team did another brilliant job for the Oscars at the
Welcome, Dawlish Warren.
The CO was on top form and gave one of his best performances yet - watch out
RJ.
Great rides, top nosh, brilliant entertainment - and for most it was all
free. What great value we get for a measly £10 a year!
And the winners were: scout basher - Keith 'Snudge' Johnson; crasher - Jon
'Aunt Sally' Sell; most promising male newcomers - Duncan; female - Emma

Satanic Sick
Heard today that Satanic is in the E.M.U. at the R.D.& E. Hospital in Exeter, having been rushed in last night. He is awake and would be pleased to have a visitor or two, but perhaps it would be wise to call the Hospital first if you are thinking of going in.
